The Fall Leadership Institute offers workshops for everyone – from seasoned leaders and those aspiring for leadership. This conference has extra course offerings especially geared for those interested in becoming leaders in their union and the labor movement in general. We welcome participants from all genders and all cultural or ethnic backgrounds.

WORKSHOPS
We Have Organized Now What? Closed -This workshop will walk you through the steps a newly organized unit needs to take to be successful. You will learn how to build membership engagement, run Union elections, determine your goals, conduct membership surveys, and prepare for contract bargaining etc.
Exploring Media and Its Uses-Media is an ever changing art that can enhance the way you share information and grow your organization. This workshop will explore how to effectively use Facebook, Instagram, digital marketing and other social media tools. Participants will also learn how to take compelling pictures, and the do’s and don’ts of internal and external communications.
Labor Law Update: Navigating Changes of Public and Private Sectors-Learn the recent developments in labor law affecting both public and private sectors. Participants will gain insights into key legislative and rule changes, compliance requirements, and strategies for navigating the changing legal landscape.
Advanced Grievance Handling- Closed Come and hone your skills that are needed for handling complex grievances. Participants will learn to apply arbitration standards to their investigations and grievance presentations in order to reach a fair settlement or prepare for possible arbitration. Participants will learn techniques for effectively communicating with members and management throughout the process.
Advanced Steward and Committee-person Training-This workshop is designed for experienced stewards and committee members seeking to deepen their skills in grievance handling, contract interpretation and conflict resolution.
Financial Planning 101-Personal Finance 101 will set the foundation for establishing financial goals and understanding the financial tools that are needed for you to accomplish those goals.
The Next Generation of Leaders: Leadership Essentials-Effective leadership is the cornerstone of any great organization. This training is geared toward emerging leaders striving to discover the tools necessary to successfully lead. You will gain insight into tried and true techniques strategies such as strategic planning and plan implementation, and polish the skills to help you grow as a leader. This class is where academic excellence collides with real-life examples to develop the “Next Generation of Leadership”.
Registration Information
REGISTRATION
Cost is $600 ($540 tuition, $60 mandatory meal fee)
$600 ($540 tuition, $60 mandatory meal fee). Please register and
pay by November 14th, 2024. If we receive the full $600 payment
by that date, you are eligible for the ExpressLane—a shorter wait
in line to check in. Mandatory meal payment covers 2 lunches and
2 breakfasts. Tuition assistance programs (TAP) cover tuition, but
not meals. If using TAP, apply for $540 tuition. You or your union
must include the $60 meal payment with your registration.

DATE & TIMES
First check-in is Thursday, November 21st, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
A welcome program that evening runs from 7 - 9 pm. There is a
second check-in period from 7:30-9:00 am Friday, November
22nd. Friday and Saturday programs begin at 9am and run until
5:00pm.

Double Tree Hilton at $145 per night (Queen Bed or King Bed)
Rooms are held at this rate until Thursday, November 14th,
2024. Mention YWC for these rates. Note hotel cancellation
deadlines. You will be charged if you fail to cancel by the
hotel’s deadline.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
The last date to withdraw at no cost is Thursday, November
14th. To be valid, cancellations must be emailed to
CLCS.info@umich.edu Registrants who do not cancel by the
deadline and fail to attend owe full payment of $600.00.
