2016 Fall Leadership Institute

OCTOBER 28-29, UM-D Fairlane Center North Building, Dearborn, MI

WORKSHOPS

1. Local Union Finances: Income, expenses, auditing, funds, accounts, local union finances can be a confusing array of numbers. This class is designed to help local union financial secretaries, trustees and other officers responsible for tracking the money that flows through a local union.

2. Advanced Grievance Handling: Whether a seasoned pro or brand-new, come to this workshop and dig in. Information requests, writing a proper grievance, and when to settle, everything you need to know to get justice for your coworkers. Designed for participants that want to follow up on Basic Grievance Handling.

3. Collective Bargaining: This class will explore establishing bargaining goals, writing proposals, costing proposals, some legal aspects of bargaining for private-sector unions, and handling ratification.

4. Effective Committees: Most unions have committees where much of the important work gets done. Community Services, Civil and Human Rights, Veterans and Conservation/Recreation Committees do important work within our union. This class will help your committees set SMART goals, recruit volunteers, organize events and carry on the work of the union.

5. Parliamentary Procedure: Remember your first meeting? Yeah, we were confused, too.  This class will put you in front, running a meeting like a (Par) pro. Come and get the knowledge and experience you need to lead and participate in a democratically run meeting.
