WORKSHOPS

1. PUBLIC SPEAKING AND COMMUNICATION: Get up and speak up! If you’re active in the union, or want to become active, you have to get up and speak up. Learn to put together a brief speech, one that will move your listeners and get attention in a good way.

2. EFFECTIVE COMMITTEES: Most unions have committees where much of the important work gets done, such as Community Services, Civil and Human Rights, Veterans and Conservation/Recreation, Women’s, etc. This class will help your committees set SMART goals, recruit volunteers, organize events and carry on the work of the union.

3. LOCAL UNION ADMINISTRATION: Income, expenses, auditing, elections, the business of unions is serious work. This class is designed to help local union officers responsible for what goes on at the hall or the office.

4. ADVANCED GRIEVANCE HANDLING: Designed for participants that want to follow up on Basic Grievance Handling. Workshop discussions include writing fact sheets, preparing for arbitration and when to settle. You must have taken Basic Grievance Handling prior to this class.

5. COLLECTIVE BARGAINING: This class will pick up where others leave off, at the table, deadline approaching, how to settle and ratify an agreement. It is strongly suggested that participants have had at least one class on the subject, or some experience prior to enrollment.

6. MEDIA MATTERS II: For advanced training on print and electronic media, creating flyers, posters and eye-catching material. Come back and take this class, if you’ve had Social Media, Local Union Press or any other communications classes. This one will pick up where we ran out of time!
