The Michigan School for Women Workers invites all union and non-union workers and activists from allied organizations to share ideas and grow skills for responding to the challenges facing working people. We welcome participants from all genders and all cultural or ethnic backgrounds.

WORKSHOPS
WOMEN IN THE TRADES: Are you interested in entering the skilled trades? Great jobs! This workshop is for you!
YOUR VOICE, YOUR VOTE 2022! Working families need to be involved in shaping our government. Come and learn how to mobilize others and make a difference.
SISTERHOOD & SOLIDARITY: Class members will discuss collaboration vs. competition, and be given tools to deal with both. Learn about micro-aggression, lateral violence, and how to build sister solidarity at work.
UNIONS 101: Become an activist! This course informs and educates participants on how to get involved and how to successfully build unity in your membership.
STEWARDS AND COMMITTEE PERSONS TRAINING: A workshop for front-line union representatives and activists. Learn skills like writing grievances, holding hearings, and winning justice for members. Bring your CBA & bylaws!
CONTRACT LANGUAGE: The CBA is the ‘constitution’ of the shop. Learn how to interpret clauses and draft rules for a fair and safe work environment. Bring your CBA & bylaws!
WORKERS RIGHTS – WORKERS ACTIONS This class will cover the rules and regulations governing a union, including federal laws, fiduciary responsibilities, elections and committee work.
PRINT & SOCIAL MEDIA: Learn modern methods to inform members, combining traditional printed materials with social media. You will learn how to create a Facebook page, newsletters and journals, etc. Bring a laptop!
FIND YOUR VOICE: Get up and speak up! If you want to lead, others need to hear your voice. Learn to put together a brief speech, one that will move listeners and get attention.
INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE: How much money are you going to need to retire? When can you afford to retire? What will it take to meet those goals? Come plan your financial future.

COST is $600 ($540 tuition, $60 mandatory meal fee). Please register and pay by April 7th, 2022. If we receive the full $600 payment by that date, you are eligible for the Express Lane—a shorter wait in line to check in. Mandatory meal payment covers 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts. Evening meals are on your own. Tuition assistance programs (TAP) cover tuition, but not meals. If using TAP, apply for $540 tuition. You or your local must include the $60 meal payment with your registration. You can make checks payable to "University of Michigan-Dearborn CLCS"
TIMES AND DATES First check-in is Thursday, April 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. A welcome program that evening runs from 7 - 9 pm. There is a second check-in period from 7:30-9:00 am Friday, April 22nd. Friday and Saturday programs begin at 9am and run until 5:30 pm.
PLACE The conference will be held at the UM-D’s Fairlane Center North, at 19000 Hubbard Road, Dearborn, MI 48126.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS Rooms are available at the DoubleTree by Hilton Detroit-Dearborn at 5801 Southfield Freeway, Detroit, for $129 per night plus tax. You can book at this special rate by clicking Hotel Event Website or call 313-336-3340 before April 7th, 2022 to reserve a room. Mention the University of Michigan School for Women Workers for these special rates.
CANCELLATION/REFUND The last date to withdraw at no cost is Thursday, April 14th. To be valid, cancellations must be emailed to CLCS.info@umd.umich.edu Registrants who do not cancel by the deadline or fail to attend owe full payment of $600.00.
