The 2017 Michigan School for Women Workers is open to all workers, union or non-union, and leaders from a variety of organizations to learn together about new ideas, strategies and skills to meet the needs and challenges facing workers in our ever-changing workplaces. We welcome participants from all genders and all cultural or ethnic backgrounds.

WORKSHOPS
1. Women in the Trades
Are you interested in opportunities in the skilled trades? Currently working a non-traditional job, and encounter difficulties at work? This workshop is for you!
2. Bullying and Domestic Violence
What happens when violence at home comes to work? Get to know the signs and possible solutions to bullying.
3. Local Union Administration
For officers and committeepersons, this class will focus on the laws, rules and regulations governing a union. From federal laws to fiduciary responsibilities, elections and committee work, you’ll be ready to run things.
4. Unionism 101
This course informs and educates participants on how to get involved and how to successfully build unity in your membership.
5. Sisterhood and Solidarity
This workshop will discuss collaboration vs. competition, and give tools to deal with both. Learn about micro-aggression, lateral violence, and how to build solidarity at work.
6. Electronic and Print Communication
Giving participants modern methods to inform their membership, utilizing traditional printed materials as well as social media. You will learn how to create a Facebook page, newsletters and journals, etc. Very “hands on.” If you have a laptop, bring it along (don’t forget the charger).
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
The registration form will be available soon on this page. Mail completed form with payment to the Center using the directions on the form. You can also use the online registration form in the menu bar on the left.
REGISTRATION COST is $600.00. Registration and payment should reach us by April 6, 2017. Tuition Assistance programs cover tuition portion, but not meals. If using Tuition Assistance, apply for $540 tuition; you or your workplace must include the $60 meal payment with your registration. Meal payment is mandatory for all registrants. Evening meals are on your own.
CONFIRMATIONS ARE NOW SENT BY EMAIL.
TIME AND DATES: Check-in is Thursday, April 20, from 4:30 to 7:00pm at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Fairlane Center North. The program starts promptly at 7pm Thursday. The conference ends at approximately 5pm on Saturday.
PLACE: The Institute is held at the UM’s Fairlane Center, North Building, at 19000 Hubbard Road, Dearborn, MI 48126.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS Rooms may be reserved at the union-represented Westin Southfield Hotel, 1500 Town Center, Southfield, MI 48075 (844-300-2566). Rooms are $99.00 per night + tax. Be sure to mention the conference for the special rate. A personalized web site had been created for conference attendees wishing to reserve hotel rooms at the Westin Southfield. Guests can access the site to learn more about the event and to book, modify, or cancel a reservation up until April 23, 2017. Go to the site HERE.
CANCELLATION/REFUND Last date to withdraw for refund is Thursday, April 13. Please note: to be valid, registrants must call CLCS (313-583-6400) and speak to Center staff. Registrants who fail to attend or do not cancel by the deadline owe full payment.
