1 Unionism 101: Basic Skills
Experienced instructors help you understand the basics of parliamentary procedure and the difference between a grievance and a complaint. Learn how a union conducts business, what makes for an effective union, and how to become a more active participant. This is a great class for first timers or for experienced activists who want to refresh their skills.
2 Diversity in the Workplace
Whether it’s age, race, gender, skills, sexual orientation, or previous work locations, today’s workplaces are becoming more and more diverse. This highly interactive workshop helps you learn more about yourself and other participants. Come away with concrete skills for using diversity as a source for union strength rather than leaving it as a tool for management to use to divide and conquer.
3 Honing Your Leadership Skills
All of us have leadership skills. How do we build on our strengths and address our weaknesses to inspire and encourage others to take action? What are concrete strategies to build a stronger union? Whether you are in a formal leadership position, simply want to get co-workers together to do something, or aspire to greater leadership or activism, this workshop is for you.
4 Multi-Cultural Labor History
How do we build the labor movement today? Part of the answer lies in knowing our history. In the past, how did ordinary workers build power? How did they adapt to changing and aggressive anti-worker corporate strategies? This workshop pays particular attention to how working people have drawn on their diverse cultures to inspire and sustain themselves in hard times and struggle.
