2017 Michigan School for Women Workers April 20-22, UM-D Fairlane Center North Building, 19000 Hubbard Drive, Dearborn, MI, 48126 The 2017 Michigan School for Women Workers is open to all workers, union or non-union, and leaders from a variety of organizations to learn together about new ideas, strategies and skills to meet the needs and challenges facing workers in our ever-changing workplaces. We welcome participants from all genders and all cultural or ethnic backgrounds. WORKSHOPS 1. Women in the Trades Are you interested in opportunities in the skilled trades? Currently working a non-traditional job, and encounter difficulties at work? This workshop is for you!
What happens when violence at home comes to work? Get to know the signs and possible solutions
to bullying. 3. Local Union Administration
For officers and committeepersons, this class will
focus on the laws, rules and regulations governing a union. From federal laws
to fiduciary responsibilities, elections and committee work, you’ll be ready to
run things.
This course informs and educates participants on how
to get involved and how to successfully build unity in your membership.
5. Sisterhood and Solidarity
This workshop will discuss collaboration vs. competition, and give tools to deal with both. Learn about micro-aggression, lateral violence, and how to build solidarity at work. 6. Electronic and Print Communication Giving participants modern methods to inform their membership, utilizing
traditional printed materials as well as social media. You will learn how to
create a Facebook page, newsletters and journals, etc. Very “hands on.” If you have a laptop, bring it along (don’t

REGISTRATION COST is $600.00.
Registration and payment should reach us
by April 6, 2017. Tuition
Assistance programs cover tuition portion, but not meals. If using Tuition Assistance, apply for $540
tuition; you or your workplace must include the $60 meal payment with your
registration. Meal payment is mandatory for all registrants. Evening meals are
on your own.

per night + tax. Be sure to mention the conference for the special rate. A personalized web site had been created for conference attendees wishing to reserve hotel rooms at the Westin Southfield. Guests can access the site to learn more about the event and to book, modify, or cancel a reservation up until April 23, 2017. Go to the site HERE.
